Writer's picture: Elijah Manning Elijah Manning

Zibby Owens is the award-winning host of daily podcast Moms Don't Have Time To Read Books; CEO of the Zibby Books publishing house; owner of Zibby's Bookshop in Santa Monica, CA. She is the author of Bookends: A Memoir of Love, Loss, and Literature, and Princess Charming. Her latest book is Blank.

What's your favorite part of the creative process?

“When I think of a great idea and just KNOW it has to be a book or an article.”

What have you been reading lately?

“I’m reading Alexandra Potter’s book ONE LAST THING.”

What was the original inspiration for Blank?

“The inspiration was when I was trying to finalize an idea for my next book before my memoir came out and my son said, “Just hand it in blank!’”

What was the process of writing it like? How long did it take? What was the biggest challenge?

“It took about nine months to write but I was also running my company and doing a daily podcast so I had to get it done in the margins. The biggest challenge was finding time!!”

What is the best way you've heard someone else describe Blank?

“A fast-paced, fun romp.”

What is your greatest fear?

“Having everyone get mad at me about something. That’s literally the basis for my next novel!”

What advice would you give to an unpublished 23 year-old?

“It’s going to be a long and winding road but that’s the quickest way there!!”

If you could only write one more story, what would it be about?

“It would be about overcoming a challenge.”
